 Jasprit Bumrah, often referred to as the "Yorker King," is one of India's most iconic fast-medium bowlers. Known for his pinpoint accuracy and unorthodox action, Bumrah's rise in international cricket is a story of resilience, determination, and exceptional talent.

Early Life and Background

Born on December 6, 1993, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Jasprit came from a Punjabi Sikh family. He lost his father, Jasbir Singh, at the young age of 7. His mother, Diljit, a school principal, raised him single-handedly. Despite financial and emotional challenges, Jasprit’s love for cricket remained strong.


Beginning of a Cricketing Dream

At the age of 14, Bumrah expressed his desire to become a professional bowler. After some initial hesitation, his mother supported his dream. His dedication earned him a spot in a summer camp run by the Gujarat Cricket Association.

Path to Stardom

Bumrah's talent soon caught attention, and he was selected for the MRF Pace Foundation and National Cricket Academy’s zonal camp. He started his professional journey with Gujarat’s Under-19 team and performed remarkably well.

IPL Debut and Recognition

In 2013, Bumrah made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore, taking 3 wickets for 32 runs. This breakthrough performance opened doors for him in national and international cricket.

First-Class and T20 Career

He debuted in first-class cricket for Gujarat in 2013-14 against Vidarbha, taking 7 wickets in the match. In T20s, he made his mark against Maharashtra in the 2012-13 Mohit Kumar Trophy, earning the Man of the Match award.

International Glory

Bumrah made his international T20 debut in January 2016 against Australia. His unique bowling style and control quickly made him a key player. He went on to earn several accolades:

- Man of the Match: Against South Africa (June 2017) and Sri Lanka (August 2017)

- ODI Man of the Series: Against Sri Lanka (2017)

- T20I Man of the Match: Against England (Jan 2017) and New Zealand (Nov 2017)

MS Dhoni once called him the "Find of the Tour" during the Australia series. Bumrah became India’s specialist in death overs and held the record for most T20 wickets in a calendar year within just seven months of his debut.
