India-Pakistan Conflict: Missile and Drone Attacks Thwarted by Indian Forces
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated further as Indian defence forces successfully intercepted multiple missile and drone attacks launched by Pakistan targeting key military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur on Thursday. Air defence systems neutralised all eight missiles aimed at locations such as Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia, ensuring no reported damage. Sirens and blackouts were triggered across affected regions including Akhnoor, Baramulla, and Kupwara.
These attacks came a day after India's precision strikes, under Operation Sindoor, destroyed nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
Pakistan claimed India also conducted drone strikes in cities like Lahore and Karachi, prompting the temporary shutdown of airports in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. According to India's Ministry of Defence, missile debris is being collected as evidence of Pakistan's aggression targeting cities including Srinagar, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Awantipura.
Following the missile strikes, Pakistan initiated heavy artillery and mortar shelling along the LoC, resulting in 12 civilian deaths and one soldier's fatality.
In response, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif stated that the country has the right to respond to what he called “an act of war,” while Defence Minister Khawaja Asif expressed readiness for peace—if India chooses to de-escalate.
