Vietnam Boat Tragedy: Bodies of 15 Indian Victims to Reach Mumbai Tonight

 In a heartbreaking development, the bodies of 15 Indian nationals who lost their lives in a boat accident near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, are being flown back to India on Monday. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam confirmed that the repatriation process is underway, allowing families to begin the final rites for their loved ones.

Repatriation Flight Scheduled 

According to the Indian Embassy in Hanoi, the mortal remains departed Ho Chi Minh City on Vietnam Airlines flight VN979 at 6:00 PM (local time). The flight is expected to land at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai) at approximately 9:35 PM IST.

The Embassy also stated that the concerned state governments have been informed and requested to coordinate with the families so the victims' remains can be transported to their hometowns.

Sponsored Business Trip Ends in Tragedy 

The victims were part of a sponsored incentive tour organized by Lava Mobiles for its distributors, channel partners, and employees. The group had arrived in Vietnam on July 9 and was scheduled to return to India on Sunday.

The tragedy claimed the lives of: 

  • 10 people from Tamil Nadu
  • 3 people from Andhra Pradesh
  • 2 people from Kerala
The incident has left families and colleagues in deep shock.

How the Accident Happened? 

The accident occurred on Saturday when a boat carrying 32 Indian tourists departed Hon May Rut Ngoai Island for another nearby island. Shortly after leaving the shore, the boat suddenly capsized.

One of the survivors, Ashish Kumar, a distributor from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, said the boat had travelled only a few hundred metres before overturning.

According to his account, passengers were taking photographs when the vessel unexpectedly tipped over. He added that although there was some wind, the weather was not severe enough to suggest dangerous conditions.

Investigation Underway 

Vietnamese authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident. Officials are expected to examine factors such as the boat's condition, safety measures, passenger capacity, and operating procedures.

The Indian Embassy continues to remain in close contact with Vietnamese authorities and is providing assistance to the victims' families.

The Vietnam boat tragedy has deeply saddened people across India. As the victims return home, families, friends, and colleagues prepare to bid a final farewell to those whose overseas trip ended in an unimaginable tragedy.
